IQ

To celebrate the re-opening of school, even for those of us who no longer have to attend, let’s take a moment and find out how dumb we really are with this IQ test! (I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.)

  1. Ron! Jeremy! Good to hear from both of you. I’m sorry about this whole “category-sharing” thing. I neglected to mention that. My fate seems to have turned out much better than either of your comparisons, although I think I skipped the part where they list actual other names that belong in your category. But my category was “Visionary philosopher” so I’m pretty happy with that. Maybe that means I’m like Steve Jobs? Hehehe…

Personally, I’d rather be like Anna Nicole than like Bill Gates. Ewww… ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I won’t say but it’s 3 points higher than Mom and Dad had been told in kindergarten. And I did it with the added distraction of Elise in my lap part of the time. That was fun!

  3. It told me that I was a visionary philospher too! What is the score out of? I got a 142.
I do have to say that that was fun! The word scramble(ANLDEGN) and the “John like 400, but not three hundred” problems were the hardest for me, at first, but I’m pretty sure I figured them out. Thanks Josh!

  4. Out of?!? Dude, I think you may be borderline genius. 100 is average, and it just goes from there. I got a 136. Nice work, Eddie!

I found the listing below here. I have no idea how accurate it is, but it’s similar to what I’ve heard before.

Either way, I don’t want anyone to take this too seriously. It’s just for fun. It’s an interesting mental exercise.

    Average: 85 – 115
    Above average: 116 – 125
    Gifted Borderline Genius: 126 – 135
Highly gifted and appearing to be a Genius to most others: 136 – 145
    Genius: 146 – 165
    High Genius: 166 – 180
    Highest Genius: 181 – 200
Beyond being measurable Genius: Over 200

  5. Yeah, but I don’t know him… Anyway, I just took the “What is your Superpower?” test from the same web site and I guess I mine is ANIMAL COMMUNICATION!!!! It asked me, “Have you ever mimicked the monkeys or the penguins at the zoo?” YES! Yes I have.

  6. I got a 129 and it says I am a “Visual Mathematician.

    It describes me like this:

This means you are gifted at spotting patterns รขย€ย” both in pictures and in numbers. These talents combined with your overall high intelligence make you good at understanding the big picture, which is why people trust your instincts and turn to you for direction รขย€ย” especially in the workplace. And that’s just some of what we know about you from your test results.

The person-example they used for Visual Mathematician is Albert Einstein. *Steph sits a little taller*

  7. I also took the “What dog are you at work?” test (same website) and it told me I was a Great Dane. Hee hee. Not a bad dog to be. This is what it said:

You have an uncanny ability to mask your leadership qualities until the time is ripe. You’re not one to blurt out your design until you’ve had enough time to fully form your grand plans.

It’s fun to think of yourself as a dog sometimes!

  8. I guess I’m a big, slobbering, St. Bernard! It said, “Loyal and good-hearted, you’re as reliable as they come. Your naturally protective personality is reflected in the way you treat people close to you.” Not a bad dog to be. I’m not afraid to drool. (;

  9. So I took the test and was about to get my results and then I got this friendly little message that said “We’re sorry, emode (or whatever they call themselves) is unavailable at the moment. Your friends at emode.” So I didn’t get my score. stupid internet.

  10. Abby,

Actually that was part of the test.

OK, just kidding. But yeah, that totally sucks. I’m sorry that happened. I think you’re the only one it happened to as far as I can tell, but that doesn’t make it okay! Stupid eMode.

  11. Like you said, Josh, this probably shouldn’t be taken to seriously. They break a lot of rules for IQ tests. One of the big ones is that they have questions based largely on factual knowledge (which has very little to do with intelligence).

The fact that they claim your IQ is scientifically acurate is a big red flag that indicates it’s not. There’s actually no such thing as a scientifically accurate measurement of IQ based on a number score (at least not from a single test). “Scientifically accurate” IQ scores are based on a percentile rank or other statistical comparison of subjects who have taken the same test. This is why admission to mensa is not based on an actual IQ, but performance on a certified test compared to others who have taken the test.

Not trying to spoil the fun or anything. Just thought I’d share for those who were overly excited or depressed by their results. If you take a variety of tests, you’ll probably find a range into which you fall, and that’s not a bad measurement. On online tests similar to this, I’ve ranged from 140-170 (140 on this one), so you can see that it’s hard to pin down to one number.

  12. Heh, I had to rush through it, and didn’t get my comparison. I knew the IQ test accuracy is questionable, as Mike said. I got a 135, which is supposedly borderline genius. Heh, there are even those who suggest that IQ is NOT an accurate measure of intelligence either.

The part where it describes you is fairly accurate, however. I got Visionary Word Warrior (is there a way to look up the comparison to this for kicks?), which is pretty much me, and from what I’ve seen of the others, it’s pretty indicative of them as well.

  13. I took the test again and I actually got the results this time. I also took the “what’s your super power?” and “what kind of dog are you?” tests. I am a time traveling cocker spaniel with an IQ of 124. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. the fact that you can roam other web sites in the middle of taking the test is an eye opener for me. I looked up the harder answers on other websites. I got a 155 and I know it is less than that.

  15. The scores which you guys seem to be comparing, are they the results from the regular IQ or the Super IQ from Emode. Whenever I taking ‘sample IQ’ such as the one similar to the ‘regular emode IQ test’, I get a score of 120-130. When I took the Super IQ Test, I got 113. Even though I had never had a real IQ test before, the questions on the Super IQ Test seem to be more realisticly challenging, something that we would actually be faced with on a real IQ test if it was to be administered by a psychologist. I’m only a freshman in college, so I’m probably pretty young compared to most of you taking these tests, but I’m totally confused as to what results are more valid.

  16. It totally amazes me how many comments this entry has gotten. After Abby’s comment, there’s a big break, and then total strangers start finding it and commenting too.

I think people are finding this site because they’re taking the test and cheating by going to Google and looking for sites that talk about the test, as “john” revealed above. Interesting.

As far as “Kat’s” questions go, I think we took the regular test, not the “super” one since I’ve never heard of the Super one. Most of the people who commented above are in their early to mid 20s. I’m 25.

  17. It said I was a Visual Mathematician. For the people who web surf while taking the test: This test doesn’t count. lol

  18. Visual mathematician, also, meaning: l0lz0rs, this test is bullocks (real alpha major here, folks!) ๐Ÿ™‚

… although the fact I’m not a native speaker of English in combination with the fact that it’s almost one at night may have contributed to that (the scrambled word was beyond me!).

A score of 131. What’s odd is that it doesn’t seem to measure how long it takes you to answer these questions.

  19. Well, the validity of these online IQ tests usually have a margin of error of about errr 10 scaled points in each direction when correlated to legitimate IQ tests ( IE WAIS III, Standford Binet, Ravens Advanced Matrices). However, this margin usually favors the lower end.
so basically if you have an online iq of 130 ( which many of you apparently do), your actual IQ might be anywhere from 120 to 140, but will most likely be something like 125 on average ( very rough estimate of mine used to illustrate point) if you want to test the validity of this IQ test that seems to be very popular here ( Emodes classic IQ test i believe) then i recommend trying out the IQ tests at http://www.highiqsociety.com. these tests in themselves seem to be incredibly accurate and have basically given me the IQ i usually get with professionally administered tests. be wary though. the Verbal IQ test can quite possibly give you a score radically different from an actual composite IQ score, because sometimes peoples verbal and spatial/logical etc abilities vary, yet in most cases they correlate very well. the same goes for the timed iq test. you really need to be sharply and freshly equipped with academic based skills to attack the problems here. so if youve been preparing for the SATs lately go for it, otherwise stick to the “Ultimate IQ test”.

  20. Hey guys, I’m under the impression that the test maxes out at 142 (well I’m sure actually).
So any guys getting above that -> rubbish.

  21. Congratulations, Ghit!
    Your IQ score is 144

So, 142 obviously not the max. Not sure which others I missed, but its 1 am here and I’ve been up forever.

  22. I got 135 and I’m in seventh grade. So what’s the thing about being over 20?
We are capable too. I know many people that are under twnety and have had a score of over 115 which is pretty good for our age.

Technically, it is ALMOST impossible to get over 200. I mean, come on! It has probably already happened but you have to be really quick and good at these things. Maybe it has been at least 50 times you’ve done that quiz…

My congrats to anyone who got it! You must be a “Beyond being measurable Genius”. Ouhhhhhh!!!

    8^D me~me (U)

  23. The problem with being in seventh grade is that you might not pick up on the fact that IQ tests are supposed to be doable and valid independent of your age. I never claimed you have to be over 20. I simply said many of the people who reported their results here were over 20.

I can’t believe how many comments are on this entry. I guess people just want to feel smart.

  24. > They’re telling me I share a category with Anna Nicole.

There’s an interesting question, how LOW does the IQ scores go ?

  25. Clearly, judging from everyone’s high score, the only ‘intelligent’ thing to do is to ignore this test.

  26. I got a 159 score so what is that some one tell me i’m only 12 though. and i got a short attention span

  27. Clearly, if you didn’t get a fairly high score, you probably wouldn’t post it here. ๐Ÿ˜‰
    (By the way, I scored a 136.)

  28. There’s a strange question in tickle’s iq test, the one about logic. It can be simplified into
    all a r band all b r c and all c are d

  29. Hi, i am 12(seriously, i have no motive to lie)
I was wondering if 130ish IQ is “gifted”, “bright”,or whatever other label you may wish to put upon it.I am just pondering because, i am sorta confused. And insecure about my intelligence for some reason or another.
what factors make up a “genius” um… Thanks for ansering my query

  30. Hey Georgia (..and everyone else who for some reason keeps finding my blog…)!

I would recommend not paying much attention to the scores you get on those tests. It’s already been said that this test probably isn’t too accurate and is meant just for fun. A score of 130 is just fine, I’m sure, so don’t worry about if you’re dumb. You’re not dumb or you wouldn’t have figured out how to take the test, and figured out how to find my blog.
