Corn on the Cob

I was just introduced to microwave-steamed corn on the cob: You take you a still wrapped cob and take off the leaves until there are a few layers still covering it. Stick it on a plate for 3 minutes (5 if you’re doing two at once) and rotate once midway through. Take it out and shuck the rest of the leaves off. Butter and salt. Enjoy.

Honestly, what has been keeping from buying corn from the farmer selling it out of his truck across the street has been the attention and time needed to steam the corn. But this method works wonderfully and the corn is all that hot and tender corn on the cob should be.

My Father Who Never Forgets

It’s my birthday today and I just woke up and I just decided to play some music. So I turned on my computer, opened iTunes, put it on shuffle, and pressed play. The song that came out was “Transalanticism” by Death Cab For Cutie, BUT the second song was “It’s Your Birthday!” by Justin Roberts. I had seen him live at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis last Spring and bought his CD afterward.

Anyway, I often listen to my music on shuffle and not ONCE had any song of Justin Roberts come up when I played my music randomly. I had even taken note of this specific phenomenon about a month ago. But today up comes “It’ You’re Birthday!” and (buh, buh, ba, ba,ba, ba!) I feel rememebered.
