I comb my hair just for you.
\nI pull out the twists.
\nThe grease left in the tines,
\nthe black fuzz from my sweater.
\nI listen to the jazz music and comb my hair.
\nMy hair is not even wet
\nand it hurts a little.
\nBut my motion is smooth,
\nmy stomach grooves at the thought
\nin wavy waves.
\nI\u2019m smiling combing my hair
\nand wonder why I haven\u2019t done it sooner,
\nwhy I keep the comb in the shower.
\nWatching a movie, then with the bathroom light on
\nand walking through the house.
\nI brush the comb clean with tap water and soap
\nand then pull my dark brown black hair back like a gangster.
\nMy beard can almost wag, a guru, and catches.
\nThe bass twinges, the piano swangin\u2019.
\nI am happy to live in the flurry minute,
\nthe bright light in the bathroom.
\nI wish I was more hairy. Where you couldn\u2019t see my skin,
\nSweep my body from head to toe, from toe to head.<\/em>
\nSigh, a stringed instrument. I probably have red
\nmarks down the back of my neck, don\u2019t I?
\nI smell the comb.
