Funny spam subject: “Fight against Dippressionn”

Is that when dips get sad?

From the email’s text: “gerund is tHx in contemporaneous of termini into callahan showboat. ellwood was specific the winfield and 16735752 your scabrous or whittier”

How did they know about my scabrous???

Does anyone else have good spam to share?

Inflammatory Words

"Frodo Failed! Bush got the ring."

I saw this bumper sticker today. It boggles my mind that people can be this petty and childish. Obviously this person wanted to share their opinion with traffic as quickly as possible since the election is still fairly new news. Dear motorist: Canada is only 1000 miles away. Drive there and get on with your life, or quit whining.

Is it wrong of me to say that? Is it wrong to want people to have intelligent discourse instead of mindlessly insulting the president? This doesn’t create intelligent discourse. This just creates blind hatred. This person should expend their energy in more useful ways.

SkyWeb Express

After making some generally-disparaging remarks about cars in general (and my car more specifically) the other day, I laid out what I was looking for in my mode of transportation. I wanted something that follows my schedule rather than vice-versa, and something that didn’t make me sweat while using it. The only things that do that currently are cars (taxis included, I guess, but they’re way too expensive), and motorized bikes/mopeds/etc. Trains, monorails, and buses are on their own schedule, not mine.

Today I discovered an interesting idea called SkyWeb Express. Is this the answer I’m looking for? It seems to be better than other forms of public transportation in certain ways What do you all think?

Three Lightbulbs

In the comments a couple entries ago, someone mentioned a lightbulb-centric riddle I solved during one of the interviews I did for my current job. Many of you have probably already heard it, but for those that haven’t heard this one yet, it does make you feel good when you figure it out. In that spirit, the riddle:

There are two windowless rooms, connected to each other by a door. In one room are three lightswitches, and in the other room are three lightbulbs. Each switch controls one of the three lightbulbs. You are in the room with the lightswitches, and the door is closed. You are allowed to open the door after manipulating the switches and go into the lightbulbs room, but you are not allowed to re-enter the lightswitches room once you leave it.

Which switch controls each bulb?

Rules and suggestions while wrestling with this one:

  • If you already know the answer, for Pete’s sake, don’t post it in the comments!
  • If you’re trying to figure out the answer, it’s probably best to not read the comments.
  • If you figure it out and leave a comment, please type something obvious in ALL CAPS letting people know you’re about to answer it so they don’t read your comment if they don’t want to know the answer yet.
  • You have no additional supplies with you in the rooms. The answer isn’t a dumb “gotcha” kind of answer like, “See light under the door, blah blah.” It’s straightforward. I’m not sure if my riddlers told me that when they asked this of me, but I think it makes the riddle less frustrating, while still allowing it to be challenging.

Go for it!

My Car, The Car that Sucks

Sometimes people think for a minute that I’m rich when they hear I work for a big, internationally-famous company in California and I’m an EPM and a web developer. Well, I’m not rich. I can’t say I’m dirt poor either, but I can claim that I wouldn’t be driving a 1987 Volkswagen Jetta if I had the choice. Let me tell you about my Jetta. Is that alright? Take a seat and listen to my tale of woe.
