Charlie’s iTunes

The preliminary reports I’m hearing suggest that the new audio blog format is more portable across platforms than the first one I tried, but I’m still getting results in from people who actually have access to Windows. If you can’t hear my blogs, the best things to do are, 1) Try a different browser, and 2) download QuickTime. It’s free, it’s a one-time download and it’ll provide you with tons of internet content besides this blog. You won’t be sorry!

Audio Test

I’m going to be expanding the way I blog soon (never satisfied I guess), and I need you all to help me out. I’m asking that every single person who reads this make a comment in the Peanut Gallery (by clicking “Peanut Gallery” below this post) or email me. Let me explain.

[I removed this audio because the way I did it stunk. Please refer to the “Audio Test #2” entry or something more recent for a better example]

Above this paragraph you should see some kind of picture that says “Click here to listen to this audio blog.” If you don’t see that, then something isn’t working. If you click it and absolutely nothing happens, something isn’t working. However if you see it and click it, and hear my voice, then something is working. So if it’s working, tell me so. If it’s not working, tell me that. But whatever you do, don’t neglect to comment in the Peanut Gallery or email me! I need all the test cases I can get. If the Peanut Gallery isn’t working for you, email me at [email protected] with your response.

Oh, one last thing. When you comment, please tell me what operating system you’re using (Mac OS 8, 9, X, Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP) and what browser you’re using (Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, etc.). If you don’t know what browser or OS you’re using, that’s fine. Simply say so.

That’s all for now! Thank you for your help! If I get enough responses and I can fix the problems that may come up, I’ll be doing audio blogs soon.

New Trends

I just got a spam with the word "unpracticableness" in the subject line. I love this stuff! Seriously, can spam be fun? It’s just awesome to see the stupid stuff these people come up with. Who are they fooling? So I made a decision. I’m going to take my favorite spam subject lines and post part or all of the subject just helter-skelter on some of my blog posts. Kinda like how some blogs have a what-song-I’m-listening-to-right-now tag line on each post. I’ll have a what-spam-subject-I-thought-was-funny tagline in some posts.

In that spirit, I’ve also decided that since I’m regularly coming up with band names that sound cool (well… cool to me) I’m also going to have a "Today’s cool band name" on some posts, just for fun.

You’ve been warned.

WWDC

Well, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it? I’m going to ramble about technology for a minute (something I seem to be able to do any minute of any day). Yesterday, Apple announced the next major release of Mac OS X (codenamed "Panther") that is due out by year’s end, a new version of iChat that does audio and video chats, a new Apple-made monitor-mounted camera called iSight, and a bunch of other stuff. I’m quite excited about it. I’m at WWDC today so I took a few pictures. Enjoy!

Rock Around the Clock

I found a nifty little program called phptunest that lets you run a PHP script to turn the XML file in your iTunes library into a webpage. Here’s mine. I’ve got it organized by Play Count, so the artists I listen to the most are at the top of the list, and as you scroll down they become less and less listened to. There are a few artists that I actually have listened to, but show a zero because I listened to them on another computer. There are also a few cases where I just loaded a CD in recently and haven’t listened to much of it yet, so it’s at the bottom with zero plays even though it might be really good.

One thing I’ve noticed about people and MP3 playlists is that guys are usually really proud of how many songs they’ve got in their playlist. Two thousand. Five thousand. Twenty thousand. I only have just over eleven-hundred, and frankly that’s fine by me. As you can see from the stat at the top of the page, I’m just barely fitting inside my original 5 GB iPod right now with all that music, so I suppose I would be too cramped to add much more until I can afford to get a bigger one.

Does anyone like the same artists I do? I highly recommend everyone at the top there. 🙂
