App Idea

Someone (not me) should develop a little application for Mac OS X that sees what song you’re playing in iTunes, grabs the lyrics of the song from an online database (this type of database is already online), and then (intelligently? somehow?) grabs a piece of those lyrics and sets your iChat status to that lyric snippet.

It would be so much more interesting than just showing the currently-playing song, which iTunes already does.

My only request is that the lyric snippet that it grabs not be too long. It would have to look for a shorter snippet, and assume that linebreaks and paragraphs gave significant hints to the phrasing of the song.

Lion Song

These two lions that I know,
As beautiful as they are strong,
Sleeping in each other’s arms.

When the thunder rocks your bones,
And the night is cold and long,
Their jungle keeps you warm.

When you go out on your boat,
And the wind is whipping you,
And you feel the water rising,

See the line of blue on blue.
It’s given as a gift to you.
And keep your eyes on that horizon.

When you go out on your horse,
And you hit a tangled course,
Feel the pressure underneath.

See the green rush by your head.
You will break out, you will.
‘Neath you run some fleeter feet.

‘Cause what have we not been given?
And what have we not been shown?

These two lions that I know,
As beautiful as they are strong,
Sleeping in each other’s arms.

So when the thunder rocks your bones,
And the night is cold and long,
Their jungle kept me.

That’s Harrod & Funck’s “Lion Song”. The most beautiful metaphor for God’s provision that I’ve ever heard. I really needed to hear this today, and my iPod served it right up.

Too Many Limos

Have you ever played that game where you’re a valet and you’re in charge of an overcrowded parking lot? The goal is to get each car out of the parking lot by shifting the other cars around that block their exit. And you must do this without scratching any of the cars. Some are regular cars. The harder ones are limos, because they take up more space and block more cars from moving.

That game is the perfect metaphor for my life right now. So now you know where I’m at. I’m in the parking lot with my white gloves on.
